Yoga tycoon Ramdev appeals to SC to club IMA-led FIRs in Bihar, Chhattisgarh; seeks their transfer to Delhi

YOGA tycoon Baba Ramdev has approached the Supreme Court against multiple FIRs against him in Chattisgarh and Bihar over his remarks on allopathy in which he criticised doctors over their treatment methods for Covid-19 cases.

Ramdev has sought the clubbing of all the FIRs and their transfer to a court in Delhi along with a stay of the proceedings against him.

The Raipur police registered an FIR against Ramdev for allegedly spreading “false” information about the medicines being used by the medical fraternity for the treatment of Covid-19. The FIR was filed on a complaint made by the Chhattisgarh unit of the Indian Medical Association (IMA).

The Patna branch of IMA also filed an FIR against Ramdev and Patanjali Yogpeeth with the Patrakar Nagar police station in Patna. This FIR was lodged by IMA state secretary Dr Sunil Kumar. Ramdev was booked under the Epidemic Diseases Act-1897, Bihar Epidemic Disease Covid Regulations-2020, Disaster Management Act-2005 and various sections of the Indian Penal Code, 1860.

Baba Ramdev has been engaged in a tussle with the IMA after his controversial remarks in a video expressing doubts about the Covid19 vaccines and the efficacy of allopathic medicine.
