The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) Saturday approved the extension in the services of Ajay Kumar Bhalla as Union Home Secretary beyond his superannuation i.e. November 30 up to August 22, 2021.
Bhalla, an IAS officer of the 1984 batch from the Assam Meghalaya(AM) cadre was appointed Home Secretary in August last year. Currently, he is also holding an additional charge of Secretary, Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT).

With the ongoing pandemic, Bhalla has been, in his capacity as Executive Chairman of National Executive Committee, under the Disaster Management Act, communicating the directives of the Central Government with the States/UT with regard to the proper containment of Covid19.
The ACC is chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi with Home Minister Amit Shah its member.
