Supreme Court dismisses plea to postpone NEET, JEE exams amid COVID-19

The Supreme Court Monday dismissed a petition seeking to defer the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) and the Joint Entrance Exam (JEE) scheduled to be held next month amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

A three-judge bench of Justices Arun Mishra, B R Gavai, and Krishna Murari was hearing a petition filed by as many as 11 aspirants from across various states who wanted NEET and JEE to be deferred till normalcy returns after Covid-19 pandemic.

Appearing for the National Testing Agency (NTA), Solicitor General Tushar Mehta submitted that all safeguards would be taken while conducting the exams.

The bench, therefore, dismissed the plea with a remark that the education should be opened up and the career of students cannot be put in peril.
