“THE COLLAPSE OF CIVIL SOCIETY: REFLECTIONS ON DEMOCRACY AND THE PUBLIC SPHERE”

Dr Pratap Bhanu Mehta is an academician and political scientist who has taught at Harvard University, Jawaharlal Nehru University and the New York School of Law. He has published widely in political theory, constitutional law, society and politics in India, governance and political economy, and intellectual affairs. He has previously served as the president and chief executive of Centre for Policy Research (CPR), a New Delhi based think tank, and also as the Vice Chancellor or Ashoka University. He has served on many central government committees, including India’s National Security Advisory Board, the Prime Minister of India’s National Knowledge Commission and a Supreme Court appointed committee on elections in Indian universities.
Prof. Ritu Dewan is the Vice President of the Indian Society of Labour Economics, Vice President of the Indian Society of Agricultural Economics, Visiting Professor at the Institute of Human Development and Trustee of The India Forum. She was the first-ever woman Director of the Department of Economics, University of Mumbai, and the founder-member of the first Centre for Gender Economics in Asia.
Nikhil Dey is an Indian social activist, who works for the Mazdoor Kisan Shakti Sangathan, Suchna Evum Rozgar Adhikar Abhiyan and NCPRI. He has been actively working for Right to Information, Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act, Lokpal bill and Right to Food and other Human Rights organisations.
