District judge caught using private luxury vehicle of accused; suspended by Uttarakhand HC

The Uttarakhand High Court Tuesday suspended a district judge for using the private luxury vehicle of an accused whose petition seeking to quash an FIR against him was pending before the High Court.

The suspension order said Prashant Joshi, District Judge, Dehradun, was supposed to use the official vehicle allotted to him to attend court in Mussoorie; instead he travelled from Dehradun to Mussoorie in an Audi with the official board of the District Judge, Dehradun fitted on the luxury car, which, the High Court said, may have been done to protect the owner and the occupants from being caught.

It was also revealed that the owner of the Audi, Kewal Krishan Soin, had been accused under Section 420, 467, 468, 471 & 120-B IPC in District Dehradun and a writ petition to quash the said FIR was pending before the High Court.

The order further added that the said car was parked outside the High Court Guest House, Mussoorie, where the camp court is usually held.

The High Court in its suspension order said it found the actions of the district unbecoming of a Judicial Officer.
