Central Govt notifies transfer of 15 high court judges as per SC Collegium’s recommendation; holds back two

AS sought for by the Supreme Court Collegium on September 16, the Central Government has notified the transfers of 15 high courts judges across high courts in the country. However, the government is yet to notify the transfer of two more judges.

Punjab and Haryana High Court judge Justice Jaswant Singh and Calcutta High Court judge Justice Arindam Sinha have been transferred to the Orissa High Court, whereas Justice Sanjaya Kumar Mishra has been moved out from Orissa to the Uttarakhand High Court.

Justice Anoop Chitkara, judge, Himachal Pradesh, has been sent to the Punjab & Haryana High Court along with Telangana High Court judge Justice M.S.S. Ramachandra Rao. The Bombay High Court’s Justice Ujjal Bhuyan has been moved to the Telangana High Court.

Chattisgarh High Court’s Justice M.M. Shrivastava has been transferred to the Rajasthan High Court while Justice Sabina from Rajasthan has been shifted to the Himachal Pradesh High Court.

Patna High Court judge Justice Ahsanuddin Amanullah and Allahabad High Court judge Justice Ravi Nath Tilhari have been shifted to the Andhra Pradesh High Court, and Kerala High Court judge Justice A.M. Badar to the Patna High Court.

Justice Paresh R. Upadhyay has been moved from Gujarat to the Madras High Court.

Two Allahabad High Court judges – Justices C.D. Singh and Yashwant Varma – have been moved to the Delhi High Court, while Justice Vivek Agarwal has been sent to the Madhya Pradesh High Court from Allahabad.

The Collegium had made recommendations to this effect last month. Besides, it had also recommended the transfer of Calcutta High Court judge Justice Soumen Sen to the Orissa High Court and Madras High Court judge Justice T.S. Sivagnanam to the Calcutta High Court. The Centre is yet to notify these two appointments.
