Anurag Thakur gets I&B, Sports; Ashwini Vaishnaw takes charge of Electronic&IT and Railways

PRESIDENT Ram Nath Kovind, as advised by the Prime Minister, appointed Anurag Singh Thakur and Ashwini Vaishnaw as Minister of Information and Broadcast and Minister of Electronics and Information Technology respectively. Vaishnaw is also appointed as Railways Minister. Thakur has also got a portfolio of Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports.

Rajeev Chandrasekhar, currently a third-time Member of Parliament from BJP in the Rajya Sabha appointed as the Minister of State(MoS) in the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology while BJP’s Tamil Nadu chief Dr. L. Murugan appointed as the MoS in the Ministry of Information and Broadcast.

Newly appointed cabinet minister Anurag Thakur is a Parliamentarian from Himachal Pradesh, who got promoted on Wednesday with President Ram Nath Kovind appointing the 46-year old BJP leader as a cabinet minister. He was serving as Minister of State(MoS) in the Finance Ministry.

Last year, Thakur courted controversy when he was seen leading a crowd with the slogan “Desh ke gaddaron ko, goli maaro saalon ko,” a chant inciting listeners to shoot “traitors to the country”, with an expletive thrown in. He was addressing a pro CAA rally.

Vaishnaw is a BJP MP from Odisha. He is also a former IAS officer of the 1994 batch.

Ministries of I&B and Electronics administer the contentious IT Rules 2021 which are facing flak from digital media organisations.
