All employment exchanges in Assam to allow registration of candidates with professional degrees: Assam govt to HC

THE Assam Government has informed the Gauhati High Court that it has allowed the registration of professional courses at all employment exchanges in all district employment exchanges in the state.

This followed a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) filed by advocate Arif Md Yeasin Jwadder
alleging the Employment Exchanges were not registering the names of candidates who had done their professional courses and were seeking employment. Such registrations were being done only in four Employment Exchanges, the PIL claimed.

Notification issued by the Assam Government permitting registration of professional courses at all employment exchanges in all district employment exchanges in the state.

Taking note of the submission made by the Government, a bench led by Chief Justice Sudhanshu Dhulia disposed of the PIL.

Jwadder, in his, plea sought a direction that the District Employment Exchanges register the names of candidates who had professional degrees. Currently, the district exchanges only allow the registration of persons who have done, what the PIL described as traditional courses i.e., B.A, B.Sc, M.A and M.Sc etc. For professional courses i.e., for Management, Medical, Engineering and Law etc, there were only four (4) exchanges in all of Assam – in Guwahati city, Gauhati University campus, Jorhat Agricultural University campus and Dibrugarh.

Jwadder contended that unemployed youth had to travel a large distance and at great expense to Guwahati just to register at the employment exchange if they happened to have professional degrees.

Registration with an employment exchange is a pre-requisite for a government job applications to be taken into consideration.
